Goodbye Amstrads

It had to happen. Sooner or later you realize that your collection of old computers has sat in the corner of your basement for years without being touched. What to do? You can either pick them up again, or sell'em. Or leave'em.. in which case you have an angry girl friend on your back!

I think part of the problems with old computers is that we've been spoiled by modern technology. Quick loading time, plenty of features, eye candy graphics and sweet sound. Complex 3D game play. This is the modern computer. But we can also do vintage gaming and enjoying whirlwind speed loading using emulators. Why look back on the old spinning tape drive, fast forwarding and monitoring the tape counter. Tick. tick. tick... Like the grand clock of my grand dad when I was a kid. Sloow and monotous. As I get older I rapidly grow increasingly impatient.. and I find myself ejecting the tape regretting the whole endavour.

I've always been more of a Commodore guy than an Amstrad guy. I always hated the Amstrads despite never seeing one. Thanks to the prejudism of Commodore 64 and Amiga magazines. So when I realized that I wasn't and probably never would be using my Amstrads again, they had to go. It's a fine collection consisting of:

  • 1 x very rare Amstrad cpc 664 (valued 90 pounds in retro gamer magazine)
  • 1 x rare Amstrad cpc 6128 (valued 25 pounds in in retro gamer magazine)
  • 2 x Amstrad cpc 646
  • 2 x external drives
  • 1 x joypad
  • 3 x monitors (2 green and 1 colour)
  • 1 x disc box containing discs
  • 1 x user manual
I don't think I'm the only one. While there weren't really any Amstrads for sale on Ebay, I'm almost the only one in my circle of friends who hold on to my older computers. I do still hold 2 x Commodore 64 and my Amiga 1200. Actually, I can't wait to get hold of some proper cabling and/or software to transfer all data from the Amiga to my PC. So I can finally cut the ties to the machine. I never thought it should come to that day. But I never thought it should come to the day that bulky lousy DOS and Win 3.1 would ever win over Commodore which was even being overshadowed by the closure of Commodore itself! Gasp!

Are you an Amstrad lover who can give my machines a good home, please make a good bargain on my ebay page.
